Meet Artist Martha Cederstrom

Martha Cederstrom

O-022 Little Blue Heron by Martha Cederstrom oil 18x24 $450

Originally from the east coast, Martha grew up roaming the woods and mountains of upstate New York, and the rocky coast of Maine. From her parents she learned a great love of nature, the importance of family, and how to make things with her hands. She credits her middle school art teacher with first inspiring her interest in art, as well as the many happy hours spent in her dad's basement darkroom throughout high school. At Skidmore College Martha basically took up residence in the ceramic studio, and believed she had found her creative medium for life.

O-023 Pelican 1 by Martha Cederstrom oil 19x25  $450
Soon after college Martha found herself in Marin County, California, working a series of poorly paid jobs, and trying to figure out how to support herself as an artist. She finally succumbed to the family business, teaching, and got her teaching credential from SF State. She taught for three years in the East Bay, then was thrilled to return to Marin with a job at Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo, her home for the next 30 years.

Teaching predominantly 2D art mediums, Martha discovered a world of possibilities. Except for the occasional foray into the ceramic studio next door, she gave up clay for paint, printmaking, pastels, and whatever media suited her current project. Recently retired, Martha now has her own studio and the time to fully delve into her creative process.

Martha's work reflect her love of animals and the natural world. She enjoys playing with pattern and texture through combining different media, and often juxtaposes seemingly disparate imagery, asking the viewer to suspend their view of reality. She has been in shows throughout Marin County, and has pieces in private collections in California, Arizona, Washington, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont. Most recent work can be seen at her Instagram, marthac56.

Meet Artits Sandra Campbell

SANDRA CAMPBELL

O-014  Amador Aspen  by Sandra Campbell  collage  17x21   $310.00
I love color and expreimentation. My subjects include landscapes, florals, still life and animals. Initially, I worked only with soft pastels but sine have branched out into collage and acrylics, often combining these into mixed media pieces. Lately, I've created some abstract works, a complete departure for someone who used to produce only realistic art.

O-015 Tuscany Flowering Olives by Sandra Campbell pastel  16x19  $280.00
For pastels, I like to work on sanded surfaces, which allow for more layers of color. When people hear the work 'pastel,' they may think o f soft colors. But what attracts me to this medium is the possibility for vibrant oranges, brilliant yellows, and intense purples and reds.

T-010  Yellow Daffodils  by Sandra Campbell, mm 10x20   $235.00
Mixed media pieces utilize traditional canvasses, canvas panels or illustration board. Most of my collage pieces are fabricated from rice or similar type papers, which come in a variety of textures. Most recently, I've been working on 6 x 6 inch surfaces for both collage and acrylics.

Landscapes are created both from my own photographs and by working plein air with fellow artists in an American Association of University Women's art group. Many of the finished products are featured at the art show during the AAUW annual home tour. I also show my work during the local studio tour.

Amador County is alive with artists who inspire me and suppor my efforts. Periodically, I take a college class or an artist's workshop which may send me in a new direction. Membership in the Amador County Artists Association and Arts Council provides collegial support as does my AAUW art group. My work is on display at the Sutter Creek Gallery at 35 Main Street, Sutter Creek. View additional images on my website at  www.sandracampbellart.com

Meet Artist Connie Bowen

Connie Bowen

T-019 Serendipity by Connie-Bowen wc 30x11 $550 THEME WINNER

I have always loved art and photography and have tried hard to hone my skills with both over the past decade. I have been taking weekly watercolor classes from Popi Tyler for nine years. She is an excellent and patient teacher. She continues to teach me how to see.  I have also taken three workshops from Christpher Schink and he has pushed me to find my own unique direction with my art work. I love the process of creating with watercolor. I feel everything else slip away except being in the moment of that creation, which keeps me coming back to this beautiful medium. I live in Forestville, CA with my two dogs and a cat, who sometimes become my muses.

Meet Artist Janette Jones

Janette Jones Fine Art
O-115 GeraniumLight_by Janette Jones oil _12x24_$350

The comments heard most often about her paintings are "they make me feel joyful", "lift my spirits", and "they are filled with a sense of light and lightness". As an artist who is constantly looking for the beauty of light in every subject, this is music to her ears. As a person who is wildly optimistic about life and positive about the future, she is thrilled her paintings reflect this "joie de vivre" attitude and bring joy to her collector.  Janette uses a strong sense of design, personal color mixes and intimate point of view to create her distinct style.

Meet Artist Patricia T. Senteno

Patricia T. Senteno

O-109 Flanders Field by Patricia Senteno mm 18x18 $330

Artist Statement

I am a fiber artist working mainly with wool. I am fascinated by this natural, sustainable and pure medium that proves to be versatile, dynamic, beautiful and multi dimensional.

My pieces shown today were needle felted on 100% wool fabric. The process in which a tined needle (imagine a long straight needle 4 inches long with tines like a fish hook along the edges of the needle) was used to attach layers of wool fibers to a wool base creating a finished image, concept or idea. I used a variety of dyed merino wool roving and merino/silk blended roving to create the artwork. Each piece has multiple layers of wool fibers attached to the base which create its depth and dimension.

The Color of Peonies is an exploration of what evokes spring in the soul through the use of color and texture. It is an abstraction of a peony in bloom, unfurling nature’s secrets with each successive visit.

O-108 Color of Peonues by Patricia Senteno mm 18x18 $330
Flander’s Field is a re-imagination of the fields of poppies that emerged in the spring after the devastation of WWI. I created this piece out of a soul journey to find beauty in one of humanity’s darkest times.

My work is inspired by nature, its colors and textures which I study and explore in order to create artwork that evokes balance, harmony and beauty in one’s soul. I create images from what lives in the outer world, a reflection of what lives within. Creating, interpreting and capturing even a small piece of the vastness of the natural world is my work. I invite you to lose yourself in the colors, textures and imaginations of what speaks to your heart in each piece and create your own pictures from the whispers you hear.
