Meet Spring Obsession 2024 Artist Victoria Fout

 Victoria Fout

O-054 natures-escapism-by Victoria Fout acrylic 22x28 $1000

Life can be very hard, so I try to add a splash of color and whimsy by imagining my own fantastical worlds and beings, exploring the duality between fantasy and reality, light and darkness, life and death, expressing emotion, and reimagining nature. I create fantastical creatures and surreal landscapes using acrylic on canvass as my main choice of medium. I love a colorful palette and creating different textures. I love to manipulate the paint by using acrylic mediums such as clear tar gel, glass bead medium and molding paste to push the boundaries adding 3-dimensional elements to elevate the painting experience to bring my fantastical worlds even more to life.

I grew up in Angels Camp, California. I found my love for art at Columbia Community College during the most difficult time in my personal life. Art became a life-raft; I found comfort, escape, therapy, and a creative outlet. Art allows me to express myself. I am a local artist with a fresh and unique colorful perspective. I earned my BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2016. My artwork has been shown at the Calaveras County Arts Council, Ironstone Vineyards, Crafty Chicks Road Show, Manzanita Arts Emporium, Stocktoncon and at the Calaveras County Fair. I also serve as a Board member for the Calaveras Arts Council.

Lost within my own darkness I find the colors of expression and joy when I paint, adding fantasy to reality.

My art is an invitation into my world, welcome.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 Artist Judy Day

 Judy Day Bio:

T-011 Spring is Sprung by Judy Day wc 15x18 $225

I have a degree in graphic design and taught middle school for over 25 years. I've work4ed in all media including animation, sculpture and photography, but watercolor and drawing are my favorites. In watercolor, I like the way the pigments mix on the paper and flow from the tip of the brush, I can play for hours with paper, paint and water. Add some salt and a spray bottle and I'm set for a day or two.

T-012 Black and White by Judy Day ink 10x12 $125

I love learning new techniques and using new colors and combination of colors. I paint and draw every day from only a few minutes to 8 hours or more, I simply love it.

O-025 Ore Wagon by Judy Day wc 13x17 $200

I am inspired by, hum...almost anything at one time or another. Landscapes or seascapes, anywhere in the world, Norway, Brazil, Italy, Greece or around the corner on China Graveyard of up on Electra Road.

I see a combination of colors, shapes or textur4es and they reach out and grab me. Sometimes animals do, like the elephants in Shi Lanka, or the Koala in Australia, portraits of my grandchildren are always fun. Glowers in my yard or in a vase on my table, like I said, almost anything.

O-026 Warm Snow by Judy Day wc 21x28 $350

Playing with paint or drawing becomes a push or pull between the process of painting and drawing and the product you can produce. Do I just sit and play, or do I want to work on a piece of art to hang in the gallery? Sometimes I am having so much fun playing I am surprised a "Painting" is the result.

I teach drawing at the Amador Senior Center the 1st. Friday every month and watercolor painting in groups of 6 weeks at the Sutter Creek Gallery.

I like painting on 300 LB Arches cold pressed paper with Daniel Smith watercolors and drawing on Strathmore papers.

My work can be seen at the Sutter Creek Gallery in Sutter Creek, CA.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 Artist Vickie Chew

  Vickie Chew

T-006 TriDills by Vickie Chew oil 12x16 $400

Painting for me is a joy, challenge and mental escape all in one. Most of us Artists fall in love with a scene for variety of reasons just as you may fall in love with a particular surrounding or place. I love the challenge of trying to capture the essence of what is before me, whether it be a barn, trees, lakes or ocean. It is all about recreating and capturing the light, character and personality of the scene, nothing else exists when I paint, as I lose myself to the painting "zone". I began painting over twenty years ago so that I could escape to the zone from work but found my passion in the process. I am mostly self-taught along with many hours spent at workshops, videos and outings with my favorite mentors.

I do Impressionistic oil paintings in Plein Air, Studio, Murals and Commissioned pieces. I use brush and palette knife and very minimum mediums. My work is always sealed, signed and numbered on the back of the canvas.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 Artist Connie Bowen

 Connie Bowen

T-028 Daffylicious by Connie Bowen 6x5.5 $350

I have always loved art and photography and have tried hard to hone my skills with both over the past decade. I have been taking weekly watercolor classes from Popi Tyler for ten years. She is an excellent and patient teacher. She continues to teach me how to see. I have also taken three workshops from Christopher Schink and he has pushed me to find my own unique direction with my artwork. I enjoy coming to the Thursday night life drawing group in Occidental. The human body is so beautiful, and it is such a unique challenge. I love the process of creating with life drawings in a watercolor medium. I feel everything else slip away except being in the moment of that creation, which keep me coming back to this beautiful medium.

I won first prize in the Ironstone Vineyards Theme Division in 2020. I live in Forestville, CA with my two dogs and a cat, who sometimes become my muses.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 artist Terry Richardson

T-017 Bunny Bliss by Terry Richardson  Oil 12-x 16 $500

I began doing art at an early age while in grade school. I can remember spending hours in my room drawing and copying other artist' work. I studied it formally in high school and college but abandoned it to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy and to raise my two girls. At some point in my adulthood, I mentioned to my husband that I would like to start painting again and that year, for my birthday, he bought me an easel, paints and paint brushes. There was no turning back now! I needed to refresh my skills, so I enrolled in an art class taught by Gereon Rios. I was hooked! I have also studied with Judy Cain. My work has received awards at Ironstone Spring Obsession Art Show.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 Artist Connie Carson-Romano

 Connie Carson-Romano

O-019 Dancing Waves by Connie Carson-Romano oil 20x24 $1250

Art, for me, has always been a form of meditation and relaxation. When I immerse myself in a view of the world which I wish to express on canvas, I become totally involved. When I am painting my entire being is involved in the brush strokes and colors and the stressors of life seem to disappear. It is a therapy of creation.

O-020 Northcoast-Waves- by Connie Carson-Romano oil 12x8 $180

O-021 Iris in the rain by Connie Carson-Romano oil 22x28 $325

I prefer to work in oils as they remain active longer than other paints. Being retired has allowed me the freedom of timing that also works with other mediums. Lately I have experimented with other forms of expression including some fun yard sculptures'.

Ironstone is a wonderful venue to visit. I love the Obsession show and the varied styles of the artists chosen to be present.  The variation is always impressive and a great way to spend a day just relaxing.

Meet Spring Obsession 2024 artist Margarita Anderson

 Margarita Anderson

Artist Biography

O-075 Explosion! by Margarita Anderson acrylic 12x16 $325

With paint3ers, writers, and musicians on both sides of my family, art was something valued and expected in my upbringing. I grew up hearing my mother play Chopin and Mozart on the piano daily. Bookshelves lined the walls with classic poetry, novels and histories. The house was full of paintings done by my grandmother, my aunt, and my mother.

O-076  Roses with Oranges by Margarita Anderson acrylic 11x14 $275

Though I majored in English in college, I also took several classes in the elements and history of art. I event had the good fortune to study under Elmer Bischoff and Joan Brwon at Berkeley. But thereafter, life got busy. I got married and moved to the Central Valley where my husband and I raised our four children. Many years elapsed before I came back to my roots and took up painting again.

O-077 Flowers and Squash by Margarita Anderson acrylic 11x14 $275

Eleven years ago, I began taking classes locally. Again I was blessed with a wonderful teacher, Vince Walsh, whose weekly classes have been a tremendous help to me. I joined the city Art League where I have come to know many local artists who continue to inspire me. Motivated by the natural beauty of California and influenced by both French and California Impressionism, I paint in acrylic both outdoors and in the studio.

Meet Daryl Ron Daniel

O-093 Sailing with Dad by Daryl Daniel acrylic 16x20 $650

Daryl's entrance into this world was not nearly as exciting and notable as the rest of his life. It was unique by the fact that out of the whole universe, it was determined that he was to being his life in Concord, California but only as a launching dock to settle in many other communities. While living in Lodi, CA he often would enjoy spending time with his dad on their 32 ft motor cruiser, fishing in the delta to the SF Bay.  Growing up Daryl always had a passion for the open water and boating. After graduating from S.J.D.C. 1984 with a degree in Photography Arts and Business he mo9ved to Anchorage Alaska for a short time lining with his cousin. After Alaska's adventure he visited another cousin in Maui Hawaii where he settled living for four years. Supporting himself as a photographer for Luau's wind surf magazine and began teaching wind surfing. Looking for any o0ppurtunity to better his skills he became a close friend to a local landscape painting, Stephan Sands, helping him clean brushes and often teaching him little tricks he used to capture Maui beauty. When Daryl wasn't teaching wind-surfing he worked on a 65-foot schooner sailing vessel regularly saining from Lahaina to MoloKai. After returning to San Joaquin Valley he continued the family business of running and managing the Sno-White Drive Ins' in Riverbank for thirty years. When Daryl is not working at the Sno-White he finds time for his hobbies and passion with his 26' sail boat and enjoying time iwth friends at Sip N Paint classes, always having a passion of sailing and having memories of times on the water with his Dad, Ron Daniel. He finally was able to convince his Dad who was not 80 years old to sail with him on a 70' schooner around Alcatraz Island.

This experience with his dad inspired him to paint SAILING WITH DAD
